MICRODERMABRASION
— IN ANN ARBOR —
In a nutshell, microdermabrasion clears away the outer layer of dead and damaged skin cells to make your complexion look smoother and healthier.
Microdermabrasion is for all skin types and offers the ultimate in exfoliation, gently clearing clogged pores and eliminating dead skin cells to rejuvenate your complexion. Products used on your skin after the microdermabrasion work more effectively because they’re getting right into the dermis rather than having to penetrate through a layer of dead skin cells. Treatments for face, neck, chest and other body areas can be done as a stand alone service, as part of our other facials, or before another treatment allowing for maximum penetration of products and other deeper skin care procedures.
Effective for: Fine lines | Enlarged or clogged pores | Mild acne | Dull tone or “low glow” | Dry & patchy skin | Pigmentation | Sun damage | Oily skin | Black / white heads | Acne scars | Superficial scarring | Tone & texture for all skin types.
Microdermabrasion can be performed anywhere on the body.
Much like brushing your teeth, Microdermabraision helps to gently remove “plaque” and skin debris.
Since microdermabrasion produces only a very superficial depth of skin removal, it works best on improving conditions on the surface of the skin. Microdermabrasion uses a combination of a fine abrasive tip and vacuum suction applied to the skin. There are no needles or anesthetics required for microdermabrasion. The vacuum pressure and speed are adjusted depending on the sensitivity and tolerance of the skin. Microdermabrasion is often compared to the feeling of a cat licking your face, a rough but gentle texture. Typical microdermabrasion sessions can last anywhere from 15 to 60 minutes. There is no downtime after microdermabrasion and most people immediately return to daily activity after a session. Makeup and nonirritating creams can usually be applied right after microdermabrasion.
Since human skin typically regenerates at approximately 30-day intervals, skin improvement with microdermabrasion is temporary and needs to be repeated at average intervals of two to four weeks for continued improvement. Multiple treatments in combination with sunscreen, sun avoidance, and other skin-care creams yield the best results.
Dermaplaning is another gentle and effective manual exfoliation procedure that removes the outer layers of dead skin cells as well as the Vellus hair known as “peach fuzz”.
