THREADING
Avissa Skin offers threading hair removal for both Women and Men in Ann Arbor, MI
In threading, a thin cotton thread is doubled and then twisted. It is rolled over areas of the unwanted hair which pluck out the hair at the root level. What makes threading so unique is that it restrains hair from growing back fast. It also reduces hair thickness and density so that it grows back fine and light. No other hair removal treatment can achieve this. Threading does not pull the skin, preventing it from looking saggy and therefore keeping wrinkles at bay.

Threading is most appropriate for hair removal on smaller areas, such as the eyebrows, upper lip, chin, sideburns, and other areas of the face. The method is not suitable for large areas of thick body hair, such as the back or legs, but it can remove hair from smaller areas such as the toes. What is threading?
Threading is an ancient art that originated in the Middle East and India some 6,000 years ago. It’s a very simple concept of using two 100% sterile threads that are doubled and then twisted using a specific technique. The thread is then rolled over the area with unwanted hair.
I’m on Accutane. Can I still have threading performed on my face?
Yes! Dermatologists approve of threading because it does not break the skin. Nor does it pull it like waxing.
What makes threading more effective than waxing?
Threading lifts the follicle as it pulls out hair, which also weakens it. That’s why it takes longer for the hair to grow back than it does for waxing.
What kind of results can I expect with threading?
With waxing, you may have to start plucking two weeks after your wax treatment. With threading, you generally get 3-4 weeks of a hair-free area.
Can I thread more than just my brows?
Yes, we thread your upper lip, chin, cheeks, and sideburns.
Is threading painful?
We all have different levels of pain tolerance. However, many of our clients tell us that they have far less discomfort with threading than waxing. And still others tell us they have no discomfort at all!
What about the possibility of cross contamination?
Threading does not use a wooden stick, which is dipped into a wax pot. Instead, we use 100% sterile cotton thread that is rolled over the area. When the session has ended the thread is tossed. So you never have to worry about passing bacteria from one person to another.
What if I have sensitive skin?
Persons with sensitive skin are perfect candidates for threading! Also, diabetics, cancer patients, Retin-A users, those taking medications that cause skin sensitivity or irritation. Threading is the gentle and effective alternative to waxing.

Threading is considered the best alternative to waxing and tweezing, and it is very gentle on your skin. Yet, those with sensitive skin may experience a little redness after a treatment that should not last long. If you experience a discomfort, it is advisable to apply a cold compress over the treated area followed by toner or cooling gel that contains aloe Vera or witch hazel. Those with extra sensitive or rosacea prone skin should follow the tips below to avoid soreness, skin irritation or breakouts (which are very rare!) after a full face threading :
Activities to avoid:
The hairs from the face are removed from the follicle, leaving the pores on the skin open for at least 2 to 3 hours.
-
-
-
-
- Avoid touching the treated area for 2-4 hours.
- No make-up or perfumed products should be applied for 2-4 hours.
- Avoid steam treatment or heat source like sun bathing / tanning beds, hot baths or sauna for at least 24 hours.
- Avoid swimming or spray tanning 24-48 hours post threading.

-
General Care:
-
-
-
-
- Gently wash the treated area with anti-bacterial face wash.
- Toner with witch hazel to help reduce the size of pores and push out dirt.
- You may use other helpful ingredients such as Neosporin cream, tea tree oil or anti-inflammatories such as chamomile, aloe vera and allantoin.

What to do if you experience a break out:
-
-
-
-
- Apply a hydrocortisone cream to help relieve swelling and itching.
- Refrain from squeezing the pimples. This can lead to infection or spread the bacteria to other areas of your face.
- Visit a board-certified dermatologist if the pimples get bigger or don’t go away. You may need a prescription-strength antibiotic or topical cream.
