MICRONEEDLING
COLLAGEN INDUCTION

— IN ANN ARBOR —

Bring back your baby skin with this classic aesthetic procedure! Microneedling harnesses your skin’s innate healing powers to improve its health and appearance.

Microneedling uses a handheld device with fine very medical-grade needles. As the device moves across the skin, it creates microchannels that induce the body’s natural healing, stimulating collagen and elastin production. These micro punctures cause minor trauma, invoking an immune response leading to collagen generation. Within the first hour following a microneedling procedure the resulting microchannels increase product absorption and efficacy by 3000%, therefore, topical application of hydrating and collagen-boosting serums such as Hyaluronic Acid (HA), peptides, growth factors, and PRF can further enhance the results of Microneedling treatments.

This versatile procedure is safe for all skin types and tones and can be safely used across all areas of the body. Results of microneedling may become evident as early as a few days with ongoing improvements to be observed for several months after. Many people see noticeable improvements after a single session. However, consecutive treatments are highly recommended for optimal results.

It can treat:

Collagen loss  |  Fine lines & wrinkles  |  Minor skin laxity  |  Dull tone, or “low glow”  |  Rough skin  |  Pigmentation  |  Sun damage  |  Melasma  |  Blackheads  |  Scars & Acne scars  |  Stretch marks  |  Hair revitalization  & more.

Combine PRF with Microneedling for the ultimate anti-aging solution.

2 absolute best treatments to pair microneedling with in the same session:

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF)

Within the first hour following a microneedling procedure the resulting microchannels increase product absorption and efficacy by 3000%. Combining topical application or injection of PRF with Microneedling in the same session will make the ultimate anti-aging procedure by saturating the newly created fine, porous wounds with concentrated growth factors from your own blood. PRF treatment requires your blood to be drawn– stay hydrated 3-4 days prior to your appointment.

LaseMD Ultra™ Skin Resurfacing

By treating all layers of the skin at one time a synergistic effect provides a unique anti-aging solution for both immediate and progressive results. While microneedling penetrates deeper into the skin to remodel collagen, enhance skin laxity, and deeper scars,  LaseMD Ultra™ focuses on the surface layers to improve the appearance of skin tone and texture, fine lines, uneven pigmentation, sun damage, and mild scarring. Stacking these two classic treatments can address a wide range of skin concerns, yielding more noticeable, longer-lasting results often unachievable with a single modality.

Microneedling is gaining popularity among men because it is a non-surgical treatment with natural results.

After the age of 20, the collagen production rate in our skin declines by about 1% every year. Gulp!

For women, collagen synthesis falls by about 30% during the first few years of menopause, and then by 2% thereafter. Age-related collagen loss can be overwhelming, but don’t worry, there are things that you can do to help slow down the process. Book a consultation and together we’ll answer any questions and plan how you can achieve your aesthetic goals.

Need even more drastic, long-lasting results? Ask us about RF Microneedling procedure.

Prior to your appointment, we’ll ask you to avoid sensitizing skin agents like vitamin A derivatives and acids and minimize sun exposure. During your appointment, we’ll begin by cleansing the skin. If you’re sensitive to these kinds of treatments, we can use numbing cream to ensure your comfort. We’ll then use the microneedling pen to treat the desired areas. You may experience redness, swelling, and irritation afterward: this is normal and should subside. Your results will improve over time as microneedling is a longer-term solution, and typically we perform multiple sessions to get ideal results. We recommend you treat your skin gently afterwards and use a high factor SPF whenever you’re exposed to the sun.

What is the difference between microneedling and home rollers?
Unlike professional microneedling, most home derma rollers don’t puncture the skin to layers deep enough to draw blood. While this might seem a less painful option, you will not achieve the same results. The punctures made during professional microneedling are designed to induce skin rejuvenation. While you may be able to purchase medical-grade devices online that more deeply penetrate the skin, it’s best to have this treatment performed by a professional in a controlled environment. This can help avoid consequences that may cause permanent scarring.

How many sessions of microneedling do I need for acne scars?
Treatment plans vary from person to person, but research has shown mild improvement in post-acne scarring after just two microneedling sessions. After six sessions, people saw moderate improvement in their skin texture and good enhancement of scar appearance.

Why is it bad to get microneedling while on isotretinoin (Accutane)?
It’s not recommended to undergo a microneedling procedure while taking isotretinoin (Accutane) as it may increase the likelihood of scarring from the procedure. You should wait at least 6 months after stopping the medication before starting your microneedling treatment.

What will I look like after the treatment and what is the downtime like?
Most people will similarly experience redness and mild swelling as mild sunburn for 24-48. Within a week or two, you will notice that your skin is smoother and more radiant looking but the full effects won’t be seen until a few months later.

The inflammatory reaction of the skin is extremely short and fades significantly within hours from redness to pinkish which may last for 12 to 48 hours. To reduce visible redness, we recommend hyaluronic acid after the procedure, and to protect the skin with zinc-based sunblock. The use of mineral makeup is recommended after the procedure.

Is microneedling painful?
Patients typically feel some mild discomfort during their microneedling sessions, but it is not considered painful. Before the treatment, numbing cream can be applied to minimize the pain that is felt during the procedure.

How often should I get microneedling?
The frequency of microneedling will vary depending on the individual. It is recommended to consult with your practitioner to determine the best treatment plan for your individual needs. As a general rule of thumb, expect at least 3 treatments for optimal results spaced roughly 6 weeks apart.

What is the difference between Microneedling and RF Microneedling?
RF microneedling uses specialized “energized” needles to create micro-punctures along the skin and deliver radiofrequency energy through these punctures simultaneously. The addition of radiofrequency energy deep into the dermis amplifies the production of skin improving proteins and enzymes like collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid than traditional microneedling alone. Added RF energy also heats underlayers of the skin which further enhances skin tightening.
