Nose Surgery
Nose surgery (rhinoplasty) is one of the most commonly performed cosmetic procedures. During this surgery, the bony portion of the nose is reshaped to achieve a better balance with other facial features. Typically performed for cosmetic reasons, rhinoplasty may involve shortening, narrowing or straightening of the nasal bone; minimization of a hump on the nose bridge; improvement in the angle of the nose and upper lip; narrowing of the nostrils; or changes to the tip of the nose.
Rhinoplasty is best performed once the nose is fully developed. In females, this is around age 16 or 17. In males, this is around age 17 or 18. In some cases, like significant deformity due to injury, surgery may be justified at an earlier age. The best candidates for rhinoplasty are individuals looking for improvement rather than perfection in the way they look. If you are physically healthy, psychologically stable and have realistic expectations, you may be a good candidate. Septoplasty (repair of a deviated septum) and turbinectomy (full or partial removal of nasal passage filters which have become enlarge and interfere with normal breathing) are medical procedures which are often covered by insurance and performed at the same time as rhinoplasty.
Our Board Certified Plastic Surgeon will thoroughly discuss all the details of rhinoplasty with you during a free consultation.
